The ESRB has published its rating and description for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it comes packed with unannounced details on the upcoming shooter. If you’d rather go in completely blind to this year’s Call Of Duty, then I’d advise against reading on. However, if you want a little peek at what to expect, let’s continue.
I’m sure you won’t be all that surprised to learn that Black Ops Cold War has been rated M for Mature in the US, like almost every mainline Call Of Duty before it. The shooter will have its fair share of blood and gore, violence, strong language, suggestive themes, and even drug references. There’ll also be in-game purchases, obviously.
“This is a first-person shooter, set during the Cold War, in which players explore locations in Europe and Asia while engaging in combat/infiltration missions,” the summary reads. “Battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire, blood-splatter effects, and cries of pain. In addition to ranged combat, players have the ability to stab or pistol-whip enemies close-up, or use them as human shields. Some weapons cause characters to explode into bloody chunks of flesh.”
The ESRB goes on to confirm that the currently unannounced Zombies mode will be making a comeback. This isn’t exactly a shocker. Developer Treyarch introduced Zombie to Call Of Duty all the way back in World At War, and the undead fiends have appeared in every Treyarch-developed Call Of Duty since. Still, it’s good to know that they’re on the way back, ready to be both decapitated and dismembered by eager players.
Finally, the summary touches on a mission in the game’s campaign that will see players infiltrate a drug cartel. “Drug packages and piles of white powder can be seen in a warehouse,” the description reads, implying that we’re going to be getting involved with some pretty intense stuff in Black Ops Cold War.
Black Ops Cold War is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X on November 13th. Activision and Infinity Ward will be sharing a first-look at the game’s multiplayer on September 9th !
