Epic Games have acquired RAD Game Tools

Epic Games have acquired RAD Game Tools owner of bink video -technology and business, according to the post, its “products and technology appear in close to 25,000 games and are leveraged by the world’s leading gaming companies, including Epic.”

Kim Libreri, CTO of Epic Games said in his quoted text- We know first-hand how impressive RAD’s compression technology is, having used it to improve the load time and quality of our most popular games – including Fortnite. The RAD team includes some of the world’s leading compression, video, and game dev tooling experts, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Epic family.

Together, Epic and RAD plan to integrate RAD’s powerful technology into Unreal Engine to benefit the developer community and gamers alike. Epic Games has previously used RAD technology, in particular compression technology. The article also explains that as games become more ‘photorealistic and powerful, developers need the best compression software in their category that can handle increased data requirements without compromising quality.’

In short, the plan is for RAD’s team and technology to work with the rendering, animation, insights, and audio teams for Unreal Engine to improve the systems and infrastructure that game developers use. While Epic is now the owner of RAD, RAD will continue to work with the gaming industry, television and film partners, including those who do not use Unreal Engine in their work.

Jeff Roberts, Founder and CEO of RAD Game Tools stated- Our work with Epic goes back decades, and joining forces is a natural next step given our alignment on products, mission, and culture. We both believe that solid technologies enable developers to build beautiful, performant, and reliable experiences. We’re excited and humbled to join the amazing Epic team.
