What If…?, a Marvel animated series, is slated to debut on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar shortly! What If…? will continue to reveal “many branching histories of that multiverse in which important incidents from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films occur differently” now that the beloved tv series Loki has established the multi-verse realities across the cosmos. The second episode of the series will be a homage to both Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther, with Yondu beaming up as a young T’Challa in Wakanda, voiced by the late Chadwick Boseman, rather than Peter Quill.

Chadwick Boseman’s participation in ‘What If…?’ is discussed by the creators.

During a press conference for the forthcoming animated series, creator A. C. Bradley discussed how they decided to transform T’Challa into Star-Lord after seeing the two were the same age. Bradley stated,

“T’Challa is a fascinating character since he doesn’t follow his own path; instead, he alters the world around him. He does not undergo metamorphosis; instead, he transforms the world. So, taking a step back, how might T’Challa change space, we wondered?”

Bryan Andrews also spoke about his experiences working with Chadwick Boseman, expressing his gratitude and admiration for the actor. “It was fantastic being able to work with him,” he added about Boseman. Because our episodes are so short, we just got a brief moment. He was one of the first performers to sign on, I believe.” “None of us understood what he was going through at the time,” the filmmaker stated of Boseman’s health.

Additionally, Andrews stated:

“He was looking forward to playing this version of T’Challa since it was unique. Because it was a version of him playing the King, but without the mantle, the monarchy, and all the other trappings that come with it. He might make it funnier by lightening it up. He was ecstatic to bring that flavor back to T’Challa.”

In his final role, Jeffrey Wright talks about working with Chadwick Boseman

What If…? The Watcher stars Jeffrey Wright as a member of the extraterrestrial Watcher species that monitors the multiverse. Wright will be narrating the happenings of the program in the series. During a press conference, Wright remarked of the Black Panther actor and his experience working with him:

“It was a pleasant surprise to learn that we’d be sharing space with What if…?, as this would be his final performance. The thing that strikes me the most about what he’s done here and with these films is that they’re plainly about heroism and all of the complexities that entails, What we realized is that the mythological quality he brought to these performances paled in comparison to the mythic quality that was his life in terms of the way he went about performing this job; the elegance, dignity, and power.”

What If…? explains more

What If…? is set to release on August 11, 2021, as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series will look at various timelines in the multiverse to see what might happen if significant events from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films happened differently. Brad Winderbaum, the show’s executive producer, remarked of the show’s connection to the MCU:

“The fact that the program picks up soon after Loki is no accident… The multiverse has exploded in every direction imaginable. What if…? allows us to do just that. Without getting into great detail, I believe I can say that What if…? as a project, as a tale in the MCU, is just as significant as any other and is weaved into that tapestry.”

According to Deadline, Peggy Carter will take the supersoldier serum instead of Steve Rogers in the first episode of the new program.
