The Orochi, NESTS, and Ash sagas will be represented by 39 playable characters in King of Fighters 15. The King of Fighters storyline is said to be brought to an “explosive climax” by bringing together classic characters and resurrected favorites.

The game will feature a new Shatter Strike mechanic that allows players to counter enemy attacks, as well as the classic 3v3 team battle system. MAX Mode has been improved, and a new MAX Mode (Quick) option has been added, which includes a rush function for unleashing rapid combos.

Local two-player battles and online battles for two to eight players are available in addition to these modes. Online play includes ranked matches, casual matches, room matches, online training, and a draft vs. mode.

The in-game cinematics, as well as a special animated short directed by Masami Obari, are displayed in an in-game gallery. Players can also choose from over 300 songs from the King of Fighters series to play in the background of fights using the new DJ Station.

The King of Fighters 15 will cost $59.99 in its standard edition. On launch day, a Day One Edition with a Classic Leona DLC costume will be available for the same price, and pre-orders will also include the Terry costume from Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The above will be included in a Deluxe Edition for $84.99, as well as the Team Pass 1, a season pass that adds six new characters.
